Text Talks

This is a term I made up, for the discussions about the read alouds I conduct in my classroom.

It is easy to place limitations on the comprehension abilities of children. The texts I select to read in my program are planned and have a purpose. Through these read alouds, I quickly learned that with the right prompts and a strategic way of guiding the children through the texts, my grade three’s were capable of analyzing, interpreting, connecting and finding symbolism with each story. These text talks have become an engaging way that our classroom community can gain new perspectives and insight.
Here you will find a collection of texts I have read to my own classes and thought provoking questions you can use as a focus for your read alouds.
